Health Systems of Bangladesh (Section-2)

Course description: This course provides an in-depth study of the health system in Bangladesh,

covering its historical evolution, organizational structure, financing mechanisms, and policy

landscape. Students will scrutinize key health challenges, human resource management, health

information systems, and quality of care. Special emphasis will be placed on the role of

innovation, technology, and cultural sensitivity in shaping healthcare delivery.

Through interactive lectures, small group discussions, field visits (proposed), and hands-on

assignments, students will apply theoretical knowledge to real-world health system issues. The

course aims to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills to analyze and propose

improvements to Bangladesh's healthcare system.

Course objectives: By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Describe the structure and components of Bangladesh's health system, including government and private sector roles.
  2. Analyze key policies and frameworks (e.g., SDGs, HPNSDP, national health policies) and their impact on healthcare.
  3. Evaluate health system challenges such as workforce shortages, financing constraints, and healthcare accessibility.
  4. Assess the role of health information systems in decision-making and suggest strategies for improving data quality.
  5. Explore the impact of technology and innovation (telemedicine, AI, digital health) on healthcare delivery in Bangladesh.
  6. Apply cultural sensitivity principles to healthcare planning and service provision.
  7. Develop evidence-based policy recommendations through group assignments and field visit observations.
